The salary cap for the 2017 NFL season has been set at $167 million, marking another increase in the limit a team can spend on their payroll.

The NFL is big business, and in 2017, teams will be able to spend more money to put a quality product on the field. The salary cap for the NFL season will be set at $167 million, which is a $12 million increase over the mark set last season. Since 2012, the cap has gone up nearly $50 million, as the sport continues to increase in popularity. With more money to spend, expect a ton of money to be wasted on players who likely do not deserve it.

John Elway has done a nice job since taking over as Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager in Denver, helping lead his franchise to a win in Super Bowl 50. The Hall of Fame quarterback weighed in on his ideas for next season, and it included possibly bringing in a veteran to play his former position. The Broncos went into last season with Trevor Siemian as the starter, and while he had no experience prior to the season, he did play well down the stretch.

Staying with the quarterback position, after Kirk Cousins was given an exclusive franchise tag on Tuesday, Mike Glennon became one of the more sought-after free agents at the position. Glennon has had to play behind Jameis Winston for the past two seasons, but he definitely has the physical gifts to start in the league. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, two possible suitors could be the New York Jets and Chicago Bears, who both have an immediate need for a veteran starter.

On Tuesday, Jamaal Charles was released by the Kansas City Chiefs, ending his incredible run with the only organization he has ever known. As he heads towards free agency, he should be coveted by plenty of teams, with one being the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have shown some interest in Charles since his release, and with their lack of depth at the running back position, he could be a perfect fit for the Birds next season.

Finally, some Johnny Football news. It appears the comeback is on for Manziel, who has been an absolute train wreck since the Cleveland Browns took him in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Manziel has played himself out of the NFL, and his off-the-field antics just may keep him out. However, it appears he is trying to get his life in order, and recently re-hired agent Erik Burkhardt. It remains to be seen if teams will actually be interested in him, but the main thing here is that he actually gets his life together, then worry about football.
