Two years with the New York Jets might be it for perennial Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall. He is expected to be released before free agency.
Ten years into his NFL career, wide receiver Brandon Marshall has quietly put together one that merits Pro Football Hall of Fame candidacy. He has made six trips to the Pro Bowl and earned an All-Pro selection with the 2012 Chicago Bears.
However, it seems that the journeyman wide receiver will be looking to join his fifth NFL franchise. According to Kimberley A. Martin of Newsday Sports, the Jets plan to release Marshall. Martin adds that this is at Marshall’s request “to find a better fit.”
Marshall may have 941 catches for 12,061 receiving yards and 82 touchdowns in his NFL career, but he might be the most accomplished player in the league to have not reached the NFL Playoffs. He came into the league as a fourth round pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2006 NFL Draft, but has never stuck anywhere for more than four seasons.
Marshall was scheduled to make $7.5 million for the 2017 Jets, but will now test the free agency market. He will be 33 years old in 2017, but still could rattle off a few more 100-catch seasons if he joins the right system.

Despite playing in dysfunctional New York, Marshall was able to gather 168 catches for 2,290 yards and 17 touchdowns in 31 games for the 2015-16 Jets. For a team that needs both a veteran locker room presence and a dynamic possession receiver, it would be hard to pass up on a player Marshall’s caliber. He won’t be a free agent for long.
