The quarterbacks, tight ends and wide receivers all participated in the 40-yard dash at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday. Here are their results.

Saturday, Mar. 4 was Day 5 of the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. This was the second day of on-field work for some of the best draft prospects looking to enter the NFL.

The highlight of today’s action in Indianapolis was definitely the 40-yard dash. It is the scouting combine’s most popular and talked about event. On Saturday, the quarterbacks, tight ends and wide receivers were all measured in the 40-yard dash.

Here are the results for their 40-yard dash trials at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine:

Quarterbacks

  • C.J. Beathard, Iowa Hawkeyes: N/A
  • Joshua Dobbs, Tennessee Volunteers: 4.64

Four quarterbacks blazed in the 40-yard dash with times under 4.70. Texas A&M’s Trevor Knight led the way with a 4.54. Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs had a 4.64, Clemson’s Deshaun Watson finished with a 4.64 and North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky ran a 4.67.

All four of those quarterbacks were known for their mobility. It wasn’t a surprise that they ran well. A few guys didn’t do so hot, including Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer (4.83), Virginia Tech’s Jerod Evans (4.80), and Colorado’s Sefo Liufau (5.03).

Kizer’s draft stock doesn’t drop from a slower than average 40 time. Evans and Liufau’s are negatively impacted, as mobility was a crucial part of their college quarterback game. Iowa’s C.J. Beathard, Miami’s Brad Kaaya, and Baylor’s Seth Russell didn’t run at the combine.

Two wideouts destroyed the scouting combine with their impressive 40-yard dash times. Washington’s John Ross set a NFL Scouting Combine record for the 40 with a 4.22, breaking Chris Johnson’s record. Since he was wearing Nikes over Adidas, there will be Ross Island.

Ohio State’s Curtis Samuel burnt it up with a great 4.31 in his 40 time. He may have issues of sticking with an NFL team for long periods due to the Reggie Bush, Percy Harvin, “what position is he?” prototype. However, this 40 time pushes him into the conversation of a day two draft pick.

Notable wideouts that didn’t run at the combine include Western Michigan’s Corey Davis, Clemson’s Mike Williams, Houston’s Greg Ward Jr., and Oklahoma’s Dede Westbrook.
