The 2017 Summit League Tournament bracket with a printable version, to help get you primed for March Madness

The Summit League tournament this year might be one of the most wide-open fields for a single bid conference. The top 6 seeds in the league are grouped within 60 places of each other within KenPom’s adjusted efficiency ratings, and the best player in the league is on the 6th-seeded team.

South Dakota has to be the favorite – they made it through the conference season with a 12-4 record to secure the 1-seed. They have the group’s best adjusted efficiency, and are an eclectic group of freshmen and 1st-year transfers. Coach Craig Smith’s Coyotes aren’t spectacular on either side of the ball, but rode a conference-best defense to the regular season title.

They’ll have their hands full to get to the NCAA tournament, though. North Dakota State wasn’t far behind them in record or efficiency margin. The Bison even handed South Dakota one of their conference losses, and did it playing away – in a close 70-69 game back in January.

IPFW comes in at the fourth seed, but has the best win in the conference this year – an overtime victory over Indiana before injuries had claimed the Hoosiers’ season. As one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the country – they’ve hit 39.7 percent of their attempts on the year – they’ll be a contender if they can stay on a hot streak.

Both South Dakota and South Dakota State will be playing with a mild home-court advantage, as all games will be played at the Denny Samford PREMIER Center. South Dakota State could make a push behind the runaway favorite for conference player of the year – Mike Daum. Daum is an incredibly efficient, high-volume offensive player. He’s the driving force behind an offense that ranked 62nd in the country in adjusted efficiency, and would be key to any run South Dakota State’s going to make in this tournament.
