Myles Garrett posts 4.64 40-Yard Dash at NFL Combine
Myles Garrett is among the best players in the 2017 NFL Draft, and his 40 time at the combine will keep him in the conversation to go No. 1 overall.
Myles Garrett entered the NFL Combine as the potential No. 1 overall pick, and his physical measurements backed up what his college tape at Texas A&M showed. Coming at 6-foot-4 and 1/2 and 272 pounds with 10 and 1/4″ hands, 35 and 1/4″ arms and a 82 and 5/8″ wingspan, Garret fits the prototype of a dynamic edge rusher. He was sure to be one of the most watched players as defensive lineman and edge rushers took the field in Indianapolis for drills on Sunday morning.
The 40-yard dash time for lineman on both sides of the ball is typically better broken down into a 10-yard split, which theoretically shows initial explosion and burst off the line of scrimmage. Doing it without pads on and with no one in the way is another conversation, but there is some value for the 40-yard dash in the proper light.
Garrett lined up for this first attempt at the 40, and he did not disappoint.
Garrett wasn’t quite as fleet of foot in his second run, as could be expected, posting a time of 4.74 seconds. Trey Hendrickson out of Florida Atlantic matched Garrett’s 4.64 40-yard dash time on his own second run, with a blistering 1.59-second10-yard split, but he is not as highly touted as Garrett as a Day 2 or Day 3 prospect.

The Cleveland Browns could go any number of ways with the first overall pick, including trading down to stockpile more picks. But a talent like Garrett will be hard to turn away from, and he looks like the best player in the entire draft based on any evaluation measure right now.
