Did Neville successfully defend the Cruiserweight Championship against Jack Gallagher at WWE Fastlane 2017?

Most of the time when you think of the Cruiserweight division and 205 Live in WWE, you think about high-flyers and aerial assaults. That’s certainly what the WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Neville, is capable of. However, Jack Gallagher is not so much cut from that cloth. That’s what has made their feud with one another so intriguing and why their match at WWE Fastlane 2017 had such high potential.

Early in the match, it was clear that Gallagher was trying to make Neville fight with anger. With every counter and strike that he landed, it was apparent that the intent was to frustrate the champion. He succeeded in doing so and gained the upper hand by doing his headstand on the turnbuckle and landing a big kick.

However, when the action spilled to the outside of the ring, Gallagher tried to follow and paid for it. Neville sent him flying into the barricade and left him reeling. From there, the powerful champion started to punish The Gentleman. With various strikes, his quickness, and submissions, Neville was wearing down the challenger.

Gallagher tried to counter, though, and the champion then went to the outside.

That’s when The Gentlemen went outside of his comfort zone with a desperate maneuver by going over the top rope and taking out Neville. That bought him some time, even allowing him to hit a monster belly-to-back suplex from the top rope back in the ring. Unfortunately, the ever present and lightning quick Neville was able to catch Gallagher off of the ropes soon after and hit a nasty snap German suplex:

Neville almost ended the match by going off of the top rope, but didn’t get it done as it was only good for a two-count. Every time he tried to get the match finished, it seemed as if the challenger had some sort of response. That included briefly incapacitating Neville on the top rope with a gross-sounding headbutt. However, the champion recovered and took out Gallagher in range for the Red Arrow, which he then hit.

The champion covered Gallagher and earned the pin, leaving him to go into WrestleMania 33 as champion.
