Tampa Bay Buccaneers free agency 2017: Top 5 targets
By James Dudko
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ five top targets in 2017 NFL Free Agency, including two key players from the Dallas Cowboys.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have an offense potent enough to make them a regular playoff contender in the NFC. Head coach Dirk Koetter now needs his defense to reach the same level, a process he can accelerate with some smart shopping during 2017 NFL Free Agency.
Among the Bucs’ top targets, two key players from the Dallas Cowboys stand out. Read on for the full list of players the Buccaneers should target during free agency.
5. Lance Dunbar
The Bucs need help at running back and Lance Dunbar is a nice fit for the kind of expansive offense Koetter runs. In other words, Dunbar offers change-of-pace explosion as a runner, to go with terrific skills as a receiver out of the backfield.
During his time with the Cowboys, Dunbar was lined up in multiple spots. He spent time split out and flexed into the slot, sure signs of a player boasting a keen understanding of the passing game.
Of course, the Bucs aren’t shy of runner-receiver speedsters on the current roster. Charles Sims is a brilliant pass-catcher, who ought to be used more often. Meanwhile, Jacquizz Rodgers is a classic scat-back who knows Koetter’s system well from their days working together with NFC South rivals the Atlanta Falcons.
However, Dunbar can be more dynamic than either player, while also letting Sims concentrate on assuming the lead workhorse role in the running game.
