Napoli face Real Madrid at Stadio San Paolo on Tuesday, March 7 in the Champions League round of 16. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Real Madrid clearly had the advantage on paper when they faced Napoli in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 matchup. However, they didn’t look like it from the jump. The La Liga leaders recovered, though, and took a 3-1 lead on aggregate. On Tuesday, Real Madrid will now travel to Stadio San Paolo to try and close it out and advance to the quarterfinals.
Despite an even split in possession in the first leg, Real Madrid absolutely peppered the Napoli defense for the majority of the match. Karim Benzema pulled them level in the 18th minute, followed by a goal from Toni Kroos and a golazo from Casemiro. By the final whistle, they’d poured in 20 shots on the night, putting six on frame and having the three goals to their credit. Compare that to Napoli’s eight overall shots with just two on goal and it was a dominant affair.
With that said, neither Cristiano Ronald for Real Madrid or Dries Mertens for Napoli were at their bets in the first leg. As the two clubs head to Naples, Italy for the second, both will look to crank it up a notch. Ronaldo would like to push his Real Madrid side through comfortably while Mertens would love to lead his club to play spoiler.

Though Real Madrid put up three goals and are two ahead on aggregate, there could still be drama in this match. Remember, Napoli went up 1-0 on the road in the first leg. So if they could do the same, add another goal and the hold the momentum, they would advance based on away goals. The drama is just getting started.
