Senators considering jersey switch to heritage style
The Ottawa Senators might be making a full-time switch to their heritage jerseys at home.
NHL teams are scrambling to figure out their jersey situations with the league switching to Adidas. Next season, teams will have just home and away jerseys as the new style of jerseys are introduced. According to the Ottawa Citizen, the Ottawa Senators are seriously considering making a full time switch at home. They’d be switching from their current home sweaters to the popular heritage style.
“That jersey has inspired lot of people,” Senators president Anselmi said, via the Ottawa Citizen. “It’s a great looking jersey and the players like it. But we’re not going to do anything knee-jerk.”
First worn in the 1930’s, the franchise re-introduced the “O” logo back in 2011. Since then, it has been very popular among fans. The heritage logo consistently ranks among the best third jerseys in the NHL. It was worn by the original Ottawa Senators, who folded back in 1934.
Personally, the Sens should go to the heritage logo full time. It’s a much cleaner and classy look than their regular logo. The regular logo is a bit weird. It references Roman soldiers, who were often referred to as “senators”. However, the heritage logo is something fans can relate and identify with. The city of Ottawa has a proud hockey history and the heritage logo honors it.

Another factor in the timing of this could be the recent announcement they’re getting an outdoor game. No one knows if Adidas will introduce special outdoor game jerseys, so Ottawa’s likely playing it safe. The game is going to be held at TD Palace Stadium and it would make a lot of sense for the team to wear their heritage jerseys.
