The Marvel Comics adaptation of Rogue One includes some material the movie did not.
Seeing as Star Wars and Marvel are siblings in the larger Disney empire, it only makes sense that there would be some kick-ass comics that came out of it. That’s been true for a few years, and it’s almost time for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to get its turn.
By “almost time,” we mean next month. Star Wars: Rogue One Adaptation #1 comes our way courtesy of writer Jody Houser and artists Emilio Laiso and Oscar Bazaldua, with cover art by Phil Noto.
Assuming you’re one of … well, very few people who didn’t see Rogue One in theaters, this summary from Marvel gives you some idea of what to expect from this de facto prequel to the original Star Wars:
"All appears lost in the fight against the tyrannical Galactic Empire. The Rebellion has discovered the existence of the Empire’s ultimate super-weapon. The Death Star. With the power to wipe planets from existence, the Death Star’s existence spells doom for those seeking freedom. All hope now lies in the hands of new heroes Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor. Their last ditch gambit to steal the Death Star plans are all that stands in the Empire’s way!"
It was a gritty, somewhat risky story to tell as the first stand-alone Star Wars spinoff film (no text crawl, gasp!), but critics and audiences ate it up. You don’t need the Force to think comic book fans might too, and we’ve got a short preview to whet your appetite.
