Andrew Bogut to miss regular season and the playoffs

Andrew Bogut will miss the remainder of the regular season and NBA playoffs.

It appears the Cavaliers’ hopes of adding the right depth to their roster have gone out the window. Recently signed center Andrew Bogut, who began this season with the Dallas Mavericks, is out for the remainder of the regular season and NBA playoffs. Bogut, fractured his left tibia within a minute of his debut against the Miami Heat on Monday night. As noted by Tim Daniels at Bleacher Report, the loss of Bogut cuts to the core of the Cavaliers health issues.

"The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Wednesday that center Andrew Bogut won’t need surgery to repair his fractured left tibia. He’s still going to miss the rest of the 2016-17 campaign, including the playoffs.The team’s official release noted Bogut is undergoing a “non-surgical treatment and recovery plan” that should make him available in time for next season’s training camp.Cleveland signed the 32-year-old veteran post player March 2 to bolster its frontcourt rotation for its upcoming title defense in the postseason."

Cavaliers star LeBron James expressed his disappointment (h/t ESPN) in the news, knowing the Cavaliers are still behind the Warriors in the eyes of many.

"“It’s very deflating … a tough moment,” LeBron James said. “We all were excited about the acquisition and bringing him in here.“We can hope for the best … but it’s a tough one not only for him, first of all, but for our ballclub.”"

The Cavaliers most recently added Deron Williams to bolster their backcourt. Soon, J.R. Smith should return and Kevin Love should be back sometime this month. But, the loss of Bogut puts the Cavaliers back at a similar spot to where they were in the beginning of the year. Kevin Durant should be back by the end of the month, and his Warriors a favorite to win the title.
