The Buffalo Bills have had few problems running the football in recent seasons, but they could be even better thanks to the addition of fullback Mike Tolbert.

In each of the past two seasons, no team in the NFL has gained more yards on the ground than the Buffalo Bills. It has obviously been the club’s biggest strength and no doubt general manager Doug Whaley, new head coach Sean McDermott and new offensive coordinator Rick Dennison want to keep it that way.

With running back LeSean McCoy on board as well as one of the best run-blocking offensive lines in the NFL, the Bills have doubled their pleasure when it comes to the fullback position. Per ESPN’s Mike Rodak, Buffalo has already agreed to terms with Patrick DiMarco, late of the Atlanta Falcons. That becomes official on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET.

But the bigger news is arguably the addition of versatile fullback and three-time Pro Bowler Mike Tolbert. Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer states it’s a one-year contract for the two-time All-Pro. It also reunites Tolbert with McDermott, who saw more than his share of the solid blocker and running threat while the two were in Carolina together.

With both DiMarco and Tolbert in the mix, it obviously makes the return of Buffalo fullback Jerome Felton highly unlikely. He will now test free agency. With the likes of tailbacks McCoy, Mike Gillislee and Jonathan Williams still in tow, the Bills have added some extra power to their ground attack. And Tolbert also gives quarterback Tyrod Taylor a nice outlet pass-catcher as well. He’s certainly an intriguing pickup considering all the things he offers an offense.
