DeSean Jackson expected to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After sorting through suitors that included the Eagles, Patriots, and Cowboy, DeSean Jackson is reportedly poised to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

DeSean Jackson was a hot commodity this offseason with plenty of suitors trying to get this game-changing talent to sign his name on a dotted line.

Coming off his fifth 1,000-yard, 100 target season with the Washington Redskins, the 30-year-old wide receiver didn’t show any signs of slowing down and was ready to cash in on his productive season.

According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the Tampa Bay Buccanneers emerged as the front runners of this race and are poised to sign Jackson to a hefty contract.

According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Jameis Winston threw the ball longer than 30 yards only 22 times, completing only six of them in the twelve weeks that were tracked. Jackson’s is going to come in and take the top off of the defense which should lead to significantly better numbers in this area.

Another area that Jackson will impact this offense will be in the run game. Winston is one of the best quarterbacks in the league when play-action is dialed up. Through the first eight weeks of the 2016 season, Winston had a 10-1 touchdown to interception ratio when throwing outside the pocket, the best in the league.

Defenses will not be able to overcommit on the run and sit on shorter routes as Winston will now be looking for Jackson over the top or hitting a receiver filling that space in the middle of the field.

On the field, it is a perfect pickup for the Buccanneers but in the locker room, it could be a different story. The Buccanneers have one of the youngest rosters in the NFL and asking Jackson to step up and be a leader on the team could be asking too much of the fiery receiver.
