The Jaguars got it right with the signing of A.J. Bouye.

The Jaguars are set to be the vaunted “winners of free agency for yet another year. This year, the big fish the Jaguars will haul in is A.J. Bouye. It seems as though every season Jacksonville makes splash signings, most of them blow up in their face, rinse and repeat. However, while Bouye comes with questions and the possibility of being another bust, he also comes in as a piece that might complete the defense. Here are five reasons why the Jaguars finally found their fix in A.J. Bouye.

5. The defense has to win for the Jaguars

We found out in 2016 that if the Jaguars do ever make a playoff run, it will be the defense leading the way, not the offense. That would be at least until Blake Bortles leaves, or fixes his mechanics. The Jaguars had an awful defense in 2015, one of the worst in the league. However, the 2016 Jaguars did see an improvement in their defense.

Malik Jackson actually proved to be a good signing. Jalen Ramsey also looks like a hit on a top five pick. With Telvin Smith helping out as a dynamic linebacker, talented has emerged at every level. However, the defense still has holes.

The Jaguars had money to spend and it makes a lot more sense spending it on fixing the defense than it does to add to the offensive nucleus. The saying is that defense wins championships, so you cannot knock the Jaguars for trying to win on that side of the ball.
