Washington Redskins

NFC, East

Could the Washington Redskins fight inherent dysfunction with more dysfunction? Maybe, as that would be the case if the Redskins call on Cutler’s services for 2017. See, the Redskins might be semi-reluctantly parting ways with starting quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Cousins is a franchise quarterback, whether or not Washington is willing to accept that. He reportedly wants out of the nation’s capital, but owner Daniel Snyder doesn’t want to trade him. Nor does he want to give him a multi-year contract.

Assuming Cousins gets his wishes and is traded to quarterback another team, what are the Redskins going to do: start Colt McCoy? They could and they’d be mediocre at best. McCoy does have a good feel for what head coach Jay Gruden wants to do offensively. However, Cutler’s right arm is too strong to not seriously consider if the Redskins deal Cousins.

The Bears aren’t well run and neither are the Redskins. So dysfunction wouldn’t be anything new for Cutler to deal with if he signs with Washington. Odds are that the NFC East won’t be as formidable as it was last season. Washington was respectable the last two years with Cousins at quarterback. How big of a drop off would it be with Cutler under center for them?
