Free agent wide receiver, Ted Ginn Jr., will sign with the New Orleans Saints, who do not seem to be rebuilding for the future.
According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, former Carolina Panthers wide receiver, Ted Ginn Jr., will sign with the New Orleans Saints. His signing could serve as an insurance policy should the team trade Brandin Cooks.
Diana Russini is also reporting that the Super Bowl champion, New England Patriots, are considering offering All-Pro cornerback Malcolm Butler, straight up for the Saints’ big play wide receiver, Brandin Cooks. If this deal is made, then the Saints in effect, will have replaced 23-year old Cooks with 31-year old Ginn Jr.
The New Orleans Saints already have the most dead cap space in the NFL by far, with nearly $20 million allocated to released players. They also rank in the bottom half of the league in terms of available cap space. Not to mention they had the 6th-oldest team in the league to start the 2016 season, according to Rich Hill of SB Nation.
This is not exactly what rebuilding for the future looks like. The Saints have finished 7-9 for the last 3 seasons and have missed the playoffs in each of them. There are a lot of remaining questions that the Saints will have to address.
Franchise quarterback Drew Brees, is set to make $24.25 million during the final year of his contract in the 2017 season. The team has not drafted a replacement for Drew Brees. It’s unlikely New Orleans will attract a top-tier quarterback in free agency.

Though the Saints have some promising young talent on their roster, signing Ted Ginn Jr. does not enhance their long-term prospects. Over the last several years, only Cam Newton has been able to make Ted Ginn Jr. a legitimate threat during his 2 stints in Carolina.
