The Denver Broncos are hoping to get back into the playoffs this season, but reportedly aren’t willing to trade for Tony Romo to help those odds.

If you can keep up with all the news coming out of this Tony Romo story, you are a better person than all of us. After ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans were both trying to deal for Tony Romo, there comes a conflicting report from James Palmer of NFL Network.

Romo has a $14 million hit for any team that acquires him, but both the Broncos and Texans can afford to take that on. Perhaps general manager John Elway simply doesn’t want to surrender a draft pick for a player who has largely been hurt over the past two seasons. A t 37 years old, Romo is a flier, albeit one that could lead to a Super Bowl if things go well.

If Houston wants to land Romo, this could be its best chance. With the Broncos reportedly not willing to part with any compensation, the Texans might be able to bring Romo in with a trade that includes a mid-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

The Broncos have been fairly active on the first day of NFL free agency, landing guard Ronald Leary with a four-year agreement. The line desperately needed to have an upgrade, with Trevor Siemian running for his life early and often last year.
