Baker Mayfield’s arrest caught on tape, gets sacked by cops (Video)

Baker Mayfield’s arrest in Arkansas was taped and released three weeks following the altercation.
Baker Mayfield may enter his final season at Memorial Stadium with a few chipped ribs and a flimsy neck. It’s not for the most humble of reasons either.
Back when Mayfield was arrested in February for public intoxication in Arkansas, a few cops decided to play Mayfield’s own game, but this time, Mayfield didn’t have any offensive linemen to protect him. Easily seen in the video here, which was freshly released today, two cops tag teamed the Division I QB from Oklahoma, giving him a warm welcome to Arkansas.
It’s a bit too soon to point and laugh at Mayfield for how embarrassing this turned out. Not only was he manhandled by two officers, but his attempt to flee them wasn’t successful. That said, it’s important that Mayfield uses this footage as a reminder while studying film: watch for your blind spot. Even though there’s some humor to it, there’s also a question of why the officers were so rough on him, despite Mayfield taking off like he was about to run a 40-yard dash.
That arrest, which was carried out on February 24, 2017, had a lot of drama surrounding it. Not only did it take place outside of Oklahoma, but Mayfield also resorted to some party fouls, like swearing at the cops and was overall disobedient with the police officers. That, in turn, earned Mayfield some handcuffs and a mugshot that probably won’t end up on a magnet on his mom’s fridge. As for the repercussions, those will be decided upon when Mayfield goes back to Washington County, where Fayetteville is located, on April 7.

With Mayfield returning to the college atmosphere in 2017, it’s an alarming, yet huge wake-up call for the Texas Tech transfer. But all personal conduct aside, he should be able to bounce back and shape up in time for spring camp to start.
After recording 46 touchdowns last season, Mayfield will have his wingman in RB Samaje Perine, but things will feel lonely without WR Dede Westbrook, who declared for the 2017 NFL Draft. Moving on from an 11-2 finish in 2016 and a Sugar Bowl victory in 2017, the Sooners will open up this season against UTEP on September 2.
