The Duke Blue Devils face the North Carolina Tar Heels at Barclays Center in an ACC Tournament semifinal on Friday, March 10. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The Duke Blue Devils vs. North Carolina Tar Heels. Just hearing the words is enough to make any college basketball fan giddy. No rivalry in sports is as great or riddled with success as the years-long feud between these two occupants of Tobacco Road. Now they meet again, the third time in the 2016-17 season. This time, however, they’ll be playing at Barclays Center on Friday night in an ACC Tournament semifinal to see who will move onto the championship game.
Without question, Duke had the tougher matchup of the two rivals in the quarterfinals. The Blue Devils were matched up with a highly talented Louisville Cardinals team in Brooklyn on Thursday. It went down to the wire, but Duke emerged victorious thanks to a monster second-half effort from Grayson Allen. To topple UNC, though, they’ll need the Luke Kennard and Jayson Tatum in addition to Allen stepping up from the opening tip to the final buzzer.
Meanwhile, North Carolina as a whole wasn’t dominant in their quarterfinal win, at least in the first half. They allowed the Miami Hurricanes to hang around for 20 minutes. When they came out of the locker room, though, Joel Berry and Justin Jackson led one of the best defensive efforts from the Tar Heels all season. They could use that same kind of fire against Duke.
