Let’s be real: Aaron Rodgers has terrorized secondaries with much lesser talents at tight end.

It’s never a bad idea to give an elite quarterback like Aaron Rodgers as many targets as possible, and the Green Bay Packers appear to be doing just that.

The Pack hasn’t been in on any of the various wide receivers that have changed teams in free agency, but after reportedly breaking off talks with Jared Cook about returning to the fold as the main pass-catching tight end, that position was suddenly in need of an upgrade.

ESPN’s ever-hustling Adam Schefter says that mission has been accomplished.

In Bennett, the Packers are getting a player who might be known more for his quotability than his football prowess, but he actually possesses plenty of both. Originally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, Bennett had his best year in 2014 as a member of the Chicago Bears and was a big part of the offense last year for the New England Patriots, hauling in 55 passes for 701 yards and seven touchdowns to help fill the void left by an injured Rob Gronkowski.

Now the owner of a shiny Super Bowl ring, the 30-year old Bennett was somewhat surplus to requirements for the Pats, who worked out a trade for Dwayne Allen, and of course, hope to get Gronk back. The Packers could certainly use his help in the passing game; to put things in perspective, Bennett caught almost as many passes as both Cook and Richard Rodgers combined last season and easily outpaced that duo in touchdown catches.

Aaron Rodgers isn’t likely to turn down any kind of receiving assistance, and he shouldn’t have too much trouble working Bennett’s unique personality into the mix in Green Bay. And he turned to his familiar refrain when reacting to the signing on Twitter:

It’s not the kind of move that screams instant Super Bowl run, but it definitely feels like a good catch.
