Marcus Foster has March fever and he sent Creighton to the conference final

Marcus Foster just reminded everybody what month it is. In a tie game, Creighton had the ball with time dwindling down against NCAA Tourney regular Xavier. Now he could have driven to the basket and tried to get a call, or brought a screen over to create some space. Foster chose neither of those options. Sometimes the best play is to take a shot right in your man’s face and accept the results. Hero ball. The bane of every coach’s existence, but when it works there is nothing more fun.

It worked for Foster. He hit the shot and there was nothing Xavier could do about it. They couldn’t claim the defense was poor, force a turnover, or even claim an offensive foul. They just had to rush down court and throw up a desperate 3-pointer. It fell short and Foster cements his name in the legacy of March. The call for it was that much better.

Take it away Gus Johnson.

Some commentators just enhance the experience. Gus Johnson is one of those guys where every call he makes becomes just as much a part of the moment as the play itself. The “Wooooooo” he tacked on at the end was pretty great too. Shouts to Gus Johnson — you make everything that much more fun.

With this shot Creighton will be heading to the conference championship game. They have a pretty decent resume that should carry them into the tournament at this point, but a win there and they’re automatically dancing in march. Those coaches are probably telling their players to never leave it up to chance.
