Charlotte Hornets forward Marvin Williams throws down a monstrous jam on Orlando Center Bismack Biyombo, knocking him to the Spectrum Center hardwood.

The NBA is funny sometimes. Even in pretty much a meaningless game between two division rivals that aren’t going to make the playoffs late in the season, we can still see plays that will get us out of our seats in excitement.

On Friday night, Charlotte Hornets small forward Marvin Williams went up for a slam and eviscerated Orlando Magic center Bismack Biyombo for everyone to see at the Spectrum Center. Williams was not going to be denied on this jam.

Williams pretty much moved mountains on that dunk, Mt. Biyombo that is. Mid-dunk it looked like Williams paused to use Biyombo as a step stool to elevate on that tomahawk throw-down. Biyombo was a seven-footer before that dunk, not sure he is anymore.

It’s been a difficult season for both the Hornets and the Magic this season. Both Southeast Division rivals were expected to push for the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Charlotte was a sexy pick to win the Southeast over the Atlanta Hawks and the Washington Wizards. Orlando semi-convinced itself that it could contend for the No. 8 seed.

Instead, Charlotte has gone on to lose games in bunches, play terrible ball on the road, and let everyone and his mother back into games in the fourth quarter. Orlando created an unnecessary logjam in the frontcourt by virtue of the Serge Ibaka trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder for no reason. Ibaka was dealt at the deadline to the Toronto Raptors.

Biyombo and Williams benefited from a big spike in the NBA salary cap last summer, inking big deals. Williams clearly got the better of Biyombo on that dunk. Biyombo probably can’t do the Dikembe Mutombo finger wag anymore because that was embarrassing. Good job by Williams on that jam.
