FOX Sports is interested in having Tony Romo replace John Lynch in the broadcasting booth.
If Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo decides to retire, he will not be out of work very long. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that FOX is interested in hiring Romo to replace John Lynch as the network’s number two NFL color commentator.
Romo is expected to be released or traded by the Cowboys in the coming days. It is believed that the injury prone and soon-to-be 37-year-old wants to continue his playing career. However, over the past two season, Romo has played in only five out of a possible 32 games. Despite his history of injures, the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos are both rumored to be interested in Romo.
If Romo was to shock the NFL and announce his retirement he will have a lot of networks interested in his services according to Schefter. If Romo joins FOX, he would likely be in the booth with Lynch’s former broadcast partner Kevin Burkhardt.
The San Francisco 49ers hired Lynch to be their general manager this offseason. After Lynch retired from the NFL, he joined FOX’s NFL broadcast team as a color commentator in 2009. Lynch had served as FOX’s number two NFL color commentator since 2014.
If FOX is able to lure Romo into the booth, it would be a major free agent signing by the network. Many people believe that the well-spoken quarterback will be excellent in the booth or on a studio show. If Romo joins FOX, he could eventually surpass former Cowboys’ quarterback Troy Aikman as the network’s number one color commentator alongside play by-play commentator Joe Buck.
