Report: Minnesota Vikings sign Riley Reiff and Mike Remmers
By Adam Stocker
The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly spent $88.75 million in free agency on offensive tackles Riley Reiff and Mike Remmers to upgrade their terrible offensive line.
The Minnesota Vikings had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL last season but the team spent a lot of money in free agency to upgrade their biggest weakness. The Vikings opened the day by signing former Carolina Panthers tackle Mike Remmers. Hours later, they signed former Detroit Lions tackle Riley Reilly to a massive contract.
In total, the Vikings reportedly spent $88.75 million on the two tackles. Reiff will reportedly receive a five-year contract worth $58.75 million, with $26.3 million guaranteed. Remmers signed a five-year contract worth $30 million and $10.5 million guaranteed.
Offensive line was a major liability for the Vikings a season ago. Minnesota had at least five different players take snaps at offensive tackles in 2016. Matt Kalil, Jake Long and Andre Smith all ended the season on injured reserve after playing fewer than four games.
Jeremiah Sirles and T.J. Clemmings took the majority of snaps at tackle last season. The duo was awful last season, as quarterback Sam Bradford was sacked 37 times. According to Pro Football Focus, Clemmings surrendered 112 presures and 17 sacks last season.
The Vikings head into next season with stability at tackle. Reiff is expected to be the Minnesota left tackle, while Remmers will start at right tackle. However, Reemers may not be the solution to the Vikings’ offensive line problems. According to Pro Football Focus, Remmers gave up 105 pressures and 18 sacks a season ago for Carolina.
