Robert Griffin III’s stay with the Cleveland Browns lasted one season. After being released by Cleveland, he is interested in playing for the New York Jets.

On Friday, the Cleveland Browns announced that they have released former starting quarterback Robert Griffin III. He was with the Browns for only the 2016 NFL season. After struggling in the NFL for the last several years, does he have an opportunity to start anywhere in the league.

According to Connor Hughes of NJ.com, “Robert Griffin III is interested in playing for the New York Jets.” Would the Jets have interest? Is this the best move for Griffin to make to salvage his NFL career?

Like Cleveland, New York is one of the few teams in football that lacks stability at the quarterback position. The Browns released Griffin shortly after trading for former Houston Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler. He’s not great either, but Osweiler can at least quarterback a playoff-level team. Griffin has struggled to do that since his rookie year with the 2012 Washington Redskins.

Last season, New York had four quarterbacks on its roster and none of whom asserted dominance at the position. Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith are free agents. Bryce Petty looks to be a product of an Air Raid offense while at Baylor. Christian Hackenberg couldn’t complete 60 percent of his passes as a junior at Penn State in 2015.

While Griffin hasn’t shown that he is more than a dual-threat, spread quarterback, the Jets have to win at all costs for head coach Todd Bowles to keep his job. New York went a dismal 5-11 last season due to horrendous quarterback play and a myriad of locker room issues. Not sure if Griffin to the Jets makes either party better, but New York is a likely landing sport for the former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback.
