Report: Brock Osweiler, Bill O’Brien had heated altercation in Week 17
By Noah Torr
Recent news has surfaced that portrays a bigger picture behind the Brock Osweiler trade.
Brock Osweiler can never seem to get out of the spotlight, can he?
According to ProFootballTalk, Texans head coach Bill O’Brien and the recently-traded Osweiler had a physical altercation during halftime of their week 17 game. Tom Savage, the team’s replacement for Osweiler, was injured and could not return to finish the game, so O’Brien asked Osweiler to step in and be the next man up for the job.
Well, that did not sit well with Osweiler. It is not the fact the O’Brien was putting him in the game (I don’t think any player would have a problem with that), it was the fact that he had to play Osweiler. O’Brien did not have any other choice.
This excerpt from ProFootballTalk helps describe the tense situation between the two:
"At one point, it’s believed that Osweiler got up to walk away and O’Brien threw out an arm to stop him. That prompted Osweiler to act as if he were being “held hostage,” a claim that he would repeat (per the source) in the days after the game."
When you get benched, it’s really all not that not wise to claim you’re being held hostage by your head coach. Was that the only reason for him being traded? No, but that was probably not the smartest move for Osweiler, as that was apparently the last straw for him with the Texans.

So it turns out that it was not Osweiler’s terrible play that got him traded to the Browns. It was, in fact, his terrible attitude that got him traded. Osweiler did end up playing in that game and finished with 253 yards passing and one touchdown.
