A look at the East Region in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, as it is revealed on Selection Sunday

The best time of the sports year is upon us – it’s time to find out which 68 teams will be competing for the NCAA basketball championship. As always, the field is broken up into four regions — the champions of each region will meet up in the Final Four to contest for the title. One of these regions is the East. While the first two rounds will be contested in a few different locations, including Buffalo and Orlando, the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games will be held in the hallowed ground of Madison Square Garden.

Before we get to the official bracket reveal on Selection Sunday, you can get a potential sneak peek at the East region by checking out the latest bracketology projections from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.

Villanova, who have likely locked up the No. 1 overall seed, will hold the top spot in the East and get the benefit of the home crowd as they try to defend their national championship. Should they be successful, the Wildcats would be the first back-to-back winners since Florida in 2007 and 2008.

The official bracket will be released this evening, and you can check back here for the East region’s schedule. It will be posted below as an image, and with a printable .pdf.

North Carolina battled their way through the East region last year to get to the national championship game, in a region rife with upsets and great stories. Xavier, the 2-seed, was dropped in the Round of 32 by Wisconsin. Will we get another Notre Dame, who battled through the schedule of a 6-seed to reach the Elite 8? Can there be another Cinderella as compelling as Stephen F. Austin, who took down a 3-seed from the 14 spot before just missing out on the Sweet 16? Only time – and the bracket reveal – will tell.

Keep track of the action as the East Region moves forward after the official bracket is revealed, and make sure you know which direction your picks are going.
