A preview of what may come to be in the South Region of the 2017 NCAA Tournament and the official reveal of the bracket when it takes place

Selection Sunday is here, and while the No. 1 seeds seem all but locked up, the bubble is still as cloudy as ever. In what many consider a weak bubble year, who is in and who is out is still up in the air. Here we’ll be talking about the South Region of the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The Sweet 16 and Elite Eight for the South Region will be taking place in Memphis, Tennessee on March 24 and 26, respectively. They will be hosted in FedEx Forum, home of the Memphis Grizzlies and the Memphis Tigers, as well as an arena that holds just over 18,000 fans.

Here you can check what chief ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi projects for the South Region on Selection Sunday. Though the projections change by the day, there are some intriguing possibilities. And below, we’ll reveal the South Region field when it is released on Sunday evening.

Last year, the South Region held the eventual champions, as Villanova was the two seed in that bracket. Most of the region went chalk, as the only real upsets were first round matchups in which Hawaii took down California and an under seeded Wichita State team beat Arizona. The last four teams in the bracket were the top three seeds (Kansas, Villanova, Miami) and fifth-seeded Maryland.

Top-seeded Kansas dispatched Maryland and Villanova took out three-seed Miami, both in dominant fashion. Kansas won by 16 while Villanova furthered their streak of incredible tournament performances in a 23-point win. Then then Wildcats beat the Jayhawks in a close game in Louisville. After trailing by seven at halftime, Kansas cut the deficit to one with under 20 seconds left. Nova made their final four free throws while Kansas turned it over twice, ending the game at 64-59.
