Sebastien Bourdais’ win at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg also made him the leader in the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series standings.

The Verizon IndyCar Series standings after Race 1 of 17 are nearly identical to the running order of Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Race winner Sebastien Bourdais also sits atop the title chase, earning 50 points for the victory plus three bonus points for leading a lap as well as leading the most laps. Defending champion Simon Pagenaud is second with 41 points, as he picked up a bonus point for leading a lap.

Further down the running orders there are some very close competitions. Ryan Hunter-Reay holds just a one-point advantage over new Andretti Autosport teammate Takuma Sato. Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden is only a marker ahead of James Hinchcliffe for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

Will Power’s bonus point for winning the pole position on Saturday has him locked into the board’s sole tie with Graham Rahal back in 17th. Power is technically ranked ahead of Rahal because of that pole position.

And last but certainly not least, a top-10 finish at St. Petersburg netted Ed Jones a top-10 spot in the rankings in his debut. Between Jones and Bourdais, Dale Coyne Racing could be the new small team to watch for the 2017 IndyCar season.

Here are the Verizon IndyCar Series championship standings after the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg:
