1. Yogi Ferrell

The 2016-2017 NBA season really is the year for the shorter point guards. With the success of Tyler Ulis, Yogi Ferrell, and Isaiah Thomas, the NBA has been taken over by the little guys.

Yogi Ferrell went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft, but the Brooklyn Nets picked up the free agent and inserted him onto their roster. He appeared in a total of 10 games and got to play around 15 minutes per night. He did not really get to show what he was capable of before the Nets cut him. Their loss.

After J.J. Barea suffered an injury that would keep him out indefinitely, the Mavericks needed a backup point guard to carry the load when Deron Williams was on the bench. Yogi Ferrell seemed to be the best and cheapest option to do that, so the Mavericks decided to give the young point guard a chance. Ferrell showed them exactly what he was capable of doing under extended minutes on the court. Not only did he shine, but he definitely had a “Linsanity” moment. After his crazy performance on Feb. 4, in which he scored 32 points and shot 9-of-11 from beyond the arc, the Mavericks signed Ferrell to a two-year minimum deal worth $507,336 over this season and the next.

The Mavericks made the right call in locking down this rookie for the next season considering what he has been able to do for this club. With the addition of Nerlens Noel, the Mavericks are definitely moving in the right direction.

There is nothing super outstanding about Yogi Ferrell, except for the fact that he had probably the most exciting week in basketball since Jeremy Lin made Linsanity a real thing. Ferrell is just a good basketball player who can be a young and consistent option at point guard for the Mavericks.
