AJ Styles left WWE SmackDown general manager with no choice but to fire him after The Phenomenal One attacked Shane McMahon

Understandably so, AJ Styles was frustrated to start Tuesday night’s episode of WWE SmackDown. The Phenomenal One had defeated Luke Harper for what was supposed to be the No. 1 Contender spot weeks ago, earning the right to face Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 33. Instead, Royal Rumble winner Randy Orton revealed his plan and again challenged Wyatt.

That all ultimately led to a match between Styles and Orton, a bout won by the latter. After that match, Styles confronted Shane McMahon backstage, infuriated by having his title shot essentially ripped for him—unfairly, in his mind. Subsequently, Styles opened SmackDown from Pittsburgh with a promo about not having a spot on the Mania card and how he had to take action. Later in the show, he did just that. Unfortunately, it was costly action.

While McMahon was walking backstage, he was jumped and then viciously attacked. Shane was thrown into coolers, ice makers, car doors and then through a car window, bloodying up the SmackDown commissioner. Even with Fit Finlay was there to call for paramedics, Styles couldn’t stop and took one last shot on the man he felt short-changed him:

That wasn’t the end of the night for Styles, though. On the contrary, it might have been the end of his career with SmackDown. When Daniel Bryan confronted him, it was a short conversation. Bryan wasn’t going to let Styles’ actions fly, so he fired The Phenomenal One on the spot:

In all likelihood, this firing is all in storyline and will lead towards a match with some sort of stipulation at WrestleMania 33. For now, though, this was both a shocking attack and even more shocking consequence involving AJ Styles.
