Kristaps Porzingis will not return for Tuesday night’s game due to a contused left thigh.
Kristaps Porzingis was injured during Tuesday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers. The New York Knicks announced shortly after that he has a contused left thigh and will not be returning to the game.
The way Porzingis got injured was a little strange. He was driving towards the basket off ball when his leg made contact with Monta Ellis. It initially looked like a knee injury based on the type of contact, but it ended up being his thigh instead. Luckily for Knicks fans they can breathe easy knowing there was contact. Non-contact injuries are usually far more severe and it’s even better to see that his knee was in no way involved.
Porzingis needed a little help getting off the floor and was very slow as he walked away, but for the most part it was under his own power. The injury definitely looked more severe than it was in the end.
Some players might choose to play through this, but the Knicks probably didn’t give him an option. Porzingis is their future and this season is a dumpster fire beyond saving. It would be pointless to play a young star like Porzingis through injury at this point of the season.
It will be interesting to see how the Knicks respond to this. They haven’t shown any indications of tanking for a better draft spot despite their awful record and have yet to shut down any key players. This injury would be the perfect excuse to sit Porzingis for an extended period of time and maybe the entire season if they wanted to.

What’s more likely to happen is they’ll bring back Porzingis after a few games in their fruitless efforts to salvage the season. Let’s just hope he doesn’t get hurt again in one of these worthless March games.
