Manny Ramirez’s new contract in Japan includes unlimited sushi and optional practices.
Manny Ramirez is one of the most unique players to ever play baseball. His quirky personality and random antics makes him a polarizing player. People tend to either love him or despise everything about him. Whatever you think about Manny, you can’t deny he’s one of the most talented hitters of all time. Even if he never gets into Cooperstown, he’s found something even better. Manny’s still playing baseball in Japan after signing with the Kochi Fighting Dogs. His contract has some amazing perks, including unlimited sushi according to the Boston Globe.
"1) Ramirez will have use of a Mercedes and driver; 2) Practices are optional for him; 3) He’ll get a hotel suite on the road; and 4) He will receive unlimited sushi for the entire season."
It’s hilarious Manny negotiated a contract that includes optional practices. He probably wishes he got this back when he played for the Boston Red Sox. The Mercedes and driver is pretty nice. It’s also likely a way for the Fighting Dogs to keep track of him. Not having to deal with driving in traffic is a nice perk as well. The hotel suite is extremely nice too. This is likely why he signed with an independent league team as opposed to a major league team.

But without a doubt, the best perk is the unlimited sushi. Who can put a value on eating as much sushi as you want for an entire season? Only Manny could sign a contract which gives him as much sushi as he wants to play baseball. Put him in Cooperstown for having the best contract of all-time. Manny’s a hero to us all. Don’t be surprised to see unlimited sushi to be a part of job negotiations in the future.
