Rougned Odor got a bit too eager with his bat flip during the World Baseball Classic.

Bat flipping is the newest fad to hit baseball. Everyone’s doing it, especially after epic home runs. Rougned Odor is known for being a polarizing player. Some people love him, if nothing else because he once punched Jose Bautista in the face. However, others don’t like his wild and crazy antics. Odor has some power, as he hit 33 home runs during the 2016 season. Playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, he thought he hit one, so he broke out his best bat flip. There was just one problem. It wasn’t a home run.

That’s a pretty amazing and hardcore bat flip. Too bad it didn’t really celebrate anything. But to be fair to Odor, it looked like a home run. However, after a review, it turns out he only hit a really long single. Odor only missed it by a few inches. Despite not hitting a home run, maybe it was worth bat flipping since it scored the go-ahead run for Venezuela as they came back to beat Italy.

Odor made up for his untimely bat flip by scoring what wound up being the winning run on a suicide squeeze. Venezuela beat Italy 4-3. Odor could have came out of this looking foolish, but luckily for him, his team still won.

He’s perhaps most famous for expressing his disdain for Bautista’s now infamous bat flip during Game 5 of the 2014 ALDS. Odor did so by giving the Blue Jay slugger a knuckle sandwich. This led to a benches-clearing brawl, which is quite rare in baseball. Odor became a cult hero to Blue Jays haters everywhere and public enemy number one for Blue Jays fans.
