Darrelle Revis expresses desire to play for hometown Steelers after court date
By Jason Parker
Fresh off a court appearance in his hometown, Darrelle Revis says that he would love to remain in his hometown and play for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Wednesday was a good day for current free agent cornerback Darrelle Revis. In a courtroom in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Revis saw the four felony charges stemming from a fight dropped, allowing him to be a free man and walk back out the court doors and go back to looking for a team that wants a31-year old player who is starting to show he’s on the downhill side of his career.
Of course, if Revis had his way he wouldn’t have to leave Pittsburgh. Not because of any court ordered sentence that would keep him in the city, but because the hometown hero wouldn’t mind finishing up his career playing for the team he grew up watching.
Speaking to NFL Network after the hearing (h/t NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk), Darrelle Revis talked about his desire to play for the Steelers if they want him:
"“As a child I watched the Steelers play, went to a few games as a young child, I played here in high school and college, so to play here professionally would be awesome too. So we’ll see. Hopefully we’ll have a conversation with the Steelers.”"
Revis, who says he is 10 pounds lighter at this point from last season and would be willing to play either cornerback or safety, was a Pittsburgh hero before being drafted from the Pitt Panthers by the New York Jets for his first stint with the team (2007-12) before returning to Gang Green in 2015 after one year stints with the Tampa Bay Bucs and New England Patriots.

Now, the Steelers have been known throughout history for having great defensive stars and there is no doubt that Darrelle Revis is still a good player that may have a couple good years left. But you have to wonder how much is left in the tank after 10 seasons of playing top level defense and if he’s worth the risk — even from his hometown squad.
