March Madness is about more than basketball this year, with Turner Sports deciding to honor a legend.

March Madness is primarily distributed by CBS, but in order to show all the games at once they have a partnership with Turner Sports to show the games in as many places as they can at once. For the last few months, the Turner Sports crew has been in a state of mourning over the loss of their former colleague Craig Sager. The longtime sideline analyst was lost to cancer last December and the Turner Networks have used every opportunity they can to honor him.

Today, everybody at CBS, TNT, TBS, and Tru TV have special mics that say “Sager Strong” on them. The charity, started in Sager’s name, raises money to fight cancer but it’s also a symbol of everything Craig Sager stood for. His fight against cancer was more than personal. Sager was a symbol for other fighters out there that they can continue to live their lives as they fight cancer. Sager Strong is the message for that fight.

It’s hard to believe that it’s only been a few months since Sager’s passing, because it feels so much longer. The sidelines of major sporting events just aren’t the same without his wacky suits and boisterous personality.

Turner misses him and the fans miss him too. It’s wonderful that Turner continues to use every opportunity they can to honor his name and recognize his foundation. What’s even better is how CBS is involved as well. Sager might be remembered as a Turner employee, but when March Madness came around you could always expect to see a flashy suit on the sidelines.

This tournament that won’t feature Sager in person, but he’ll still be a part of March Madness in spirit. Sager Strong lives on forever and anybody that is battling, or has a loved one battling cancer can look at those mics and smile.
