Northwestern has won their first ever NCAA Tournament game and the celebrations were wild.
Northwestern fans entered their game against Vanderbilt just kinda happy to be there. They had never even been to the NCAA Tournament before let alone won a game. The players and coaches however don’t care about the history. Sure, they know all about it and have celebrated being the first team to ever accomplish what they’ve done, but for this group their work isn’t done yet. They want to go as deep into the tournament as they can.

They came into Thursday afternoon with a raucous crowd on their side. When things went well for Northwestern it might as well have been a home game for the guys in purple. Maybe that gave them an edge or perhaps it just added to the already awesome atmosphere. Either way, Northwestern had to take care of what was on the court first if they were going to continue their run at history. So that’s just what they did.
In a total nail biter, where Vanderbilt gave them everything they had, Northwestern was able to come out on top. They needed some luck, but for a school that’s never been to the tournament before maybe luck is all they need. Now, they and their fans celebrate all night.

If this was the pros there would be champagne everywhere, but water will do for the team that’s now just like everybody else. Northwestern has been to the NCAA Tournament. They’ve won a game. No matter what happens from here on out they’re just another basketball team trying to win as many games as they can. For now, though, let them and their fans bask in the excitement of something they’ve never experienced before. You only get to do it once so have fun while you can.
