Borussia Dortmund enter matchday 25 in third place in the Bundesliga table. On the opposite end of the table, Ingolstadt are 17th and will likely be relegated at the end of the season.
In match day 24, Dortmund lost to Hertha Berlin. Dortmund found themselves in an early hole after a terrible Matthias Ginter giveaway led to a Salomon Kalou goal. In the second half, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tied the game with his Bundesliga-leading 21st goal of the season. Marvin Plattenhardt scored on an incredible free-kick from just outside the box to give Hertha Berlin the 2-1 win.
Following their loss on the weekend, Dortmund returned midweek to face Sportfreunde Lotte in the German cup. After a scoreless first half, Dortmund were able to put away the third division squad with goals from Christian Pulisic, Andre Schurrle and Marcel Schmelzer. Following their win, Dortmund will face Bayern Munich in the cup semifinal.
Maik Walpurgis’ Ingolstadt squad was able to steal a point from Koln in matchday 24. Anthony Modeste scored from the spot to give Koln a 1-0. Ingolstadt used some excellent passing to set up Dario Lezcano, who tied the game. In the 60th minute, Modeste scored his second of the game and sixth of the season against Ingolstadt. A mistake by Koln keeper Timo Horn cost his side all three points. Horn let a Romain Bregerie shot from outside of the box go right through his hands and into the net.
