The CBS crew of Jim Nantz, Bill Rafterty and Grant Hill found themselves in an unusual situation late during the game between Michigan and Oklahoma State.
The March Madness game between the Michigan Wolverines and Oklahoma State Cowboys was an absolute classic on Friday. The two teams couldn’t stop scoring and the battle came down to the very end. Unfortunately, there was almost no audio down the stretch of the game on CBS.
Thanks to some technical difficulties, Jim Nantz, Bill Rafterty and Grant Hill couldn’t call the game. That meant that Tracy Wolfson would briefly call the game from the sidelines. After a brief break in the action, the broadcast would come back and a classic scene unfolded, as the broadcast crew had to share one microphone.
While technical difficulties happen in sports, this is one of the more unusual happenings. With the game near the end and a classic unfolding, CBS likely had to scramble to get these guys a mic no matter the situation.

It’s understandable that there probably just wasn’t any time at all to try and do something else. Nonetheless Wolfson and the crew pulled it off like professionals and they were able to call an exciting finish between the two teams.
It’s just a reminder that even when audio issues occur during a game, that the announcers have to be pros and fight through it. Hill even provided a little bit of humor to make the situation even more hilarious.
