Duke freshman Javin DeLaurier may have hit the shot of March Madness, but he did so completely by accident

If you’re unfamiliar with Duke Blue Devils freshman Javin DeLaurier, you’re certainly not alone. The 6-foot-10 freshman played in only 10 games in the regular season, seeing a total of just 83 minutes on the floor. However, in Duke’s First Round Friday matchup with the Troy Trojans, the Blue Devils got up big and DeLaurier got to see the floor. In the process, he hit what might go down as the most ridiculous shot of the entire tournament.

DeLaurier started on the defensive end by jumping a passing lane and notching a steal. He then tried to get out on a fastbreak. But when he got down near the lane, he seemed to either lose control or not know what he’s going to do.

Whether he was trying to throw an alley-oop to himself or something else, we may never know. Whatever the case, the freshman bounced the ball off the ground hard and toward the rim. If there’s one thing we know about his intention in doing this, it’s that it certainly wasn’t a shot. After the fact, though, DeLaurier might change his tune as the ultimate result was one of the wildest trick shots you’ll see in March Madness.

That’s really indicative of how dominant the Blue Devils were in their Round of 64 win, though. Even if the freshman’s shot was a mistake, everything was breaking the way of Duke in their victory. For a team that was hot entering the tournament, having a bit of luck as well could be a dangerous combination.
