For rock-climbing lovers at First Ascent Climbing and Fitness, it’s more than just a great workout. Carm and I went to check it out for ourselves.
In this week’s Carm and Kayla we went down the street to First Ascent Climbing and Fitness to see what this rock-climbing craze is all about!
Upon our arrival, Dan Bartz, the Co-Founder and Marketing Director at First Ascent greeted us. Bartz, an Ohio native, noticed the lack of rock climbing facilities in Chicago and decided to move forward with this business venture.
After getting a tour of the state of the art facility, which is one of the largest in the country, it was our turn to try our hand at climbing. Dan provided us with a harness, chalk and climbing shoes. Then it was off to tackle the “beginner” 40-foot wall.
"Whether you’re a first-time climber or a seasoned veteran, we invite you to join our community. We offer climbing terrain for all ability levels, as well as instruction to help you reach the next level."
Carm was a bit skeptical since it was out of his tennis, basketball comfort zone. He was first up where he made his way to the top with the encouragement from Dan and myself down below, but mostly Dan. Carm claims he came down a changed man after conquering new heights. Next, it was my turn and not that it’s a competition, but I definitely won.
Not only is climbing a great workout, but it’s a way to get off your phone, get out of your head, socialize and where the sky is literally the limit. We had a blast at First Ascent and owe a huge thanks to Dan who was as friendly, knowledgeable and helpful as they come.
