For the Second Round of March Madness, Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey just hopes fans are out of the slammer in time following St. Patrick’s Day.
Head coach Mike Brey and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish were pushed to the brink in the First Round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The Princeton Tigers gave them everything they could hands on Thursday. However, Brey’s group was ultimately able to escape with the two-point win, advancing to the Second Round and a date with the West Virginia Mountaineers. If you think that changed the head coach’s charming demeanor, though, you need to reconsider.
Brey spoke to the media in Buffalo on Friday, fittingly wearing green for St. Patrick’s Day as the head coach of the Fighting Irish. The Notre Dame head coach was even more aware of the holiday as it pertains to the team’s fans. Subsequently, he decided to rib them a bit on the usually rowdy and beer-filled holiday.

As part of his press conference, Brey noted that he knew that Notre Dame fans would be out celebrating the March 17 festivities. He’s fine with that as long as, in his words, “they can get out of jail by 8 a.m. tomorrow to come to our game” because the collective will be “rolling” for the holiday:
Never change, Mike Brey. And yes, let’s hope that your fans are able to make it to the game after getting wild on Friday night.

The Irish will take on West Virginia on Saturday, which oddly might be a better matchup for Notre Dame than Princeton was. Regardless, they’ll have a chance with Brey at the helm as he’s established himself as one of the better overall coaches in college basketball. Not to mention, he also might be the one you most want to hang out with as well.
