The NCAA Tournament might finally get an upset with New Mexico State putting a scare into the higher seeded Baylor

New Mexico State is a 14-seed trying to pull off the unlikely and knock off a 3-seed. Right now they have a good chance at doing that as they enter halftime with the lead against Baylor. This was one of those games beforehand that looked like it could be a possible upset if things fell into the right places. Baylor didn’t finish the year particularly strong and looked vulnerable as they went into the tourney.

However, they started off the year as one of college basketball’s most dominant teams making their 3-seed entirely justified. Unlike yesterday, this isn’t a case where the lower seeded team winning is almost expected. This would be an upset in a tournament that so far has lacked many of them, and that’s what everybody is looking for right now. Some excitement in an otherwise dull tournament as far as upsets and buzzer beater finishes go. Maybe this will be the one that gives the fans what they want.

So how has it been done? Well, Baylor led most of the first half and didn’t give up their lead until late into it. It’s not insane to say they’re still going to win this, or that they’re going to reclaim the lead as soon as the second half starts. New Mexico State grabbed this through some hot 3-point shooting late which sometimes is just what the lower seed needs to get a win. Eli Chuha leads New Mexico State with 10 points in the first half, but is being outscored by two players on Baylor’s bench.

Baylor is likely going to take the lead again at some point, but New Mexico State has to be confident coming out of halftime after managing to steal the lead right before the end of the first half. Maybe this will be their day.
