The North Carolina Tar Heels face the Texas Southern Tigers in the First Round of March Madness on Friday, March 17. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The last time the North Carolina Tar Heels played in an NCAA Tournament game, they were on the wrong end of one of the greatest plays in tourney history. That, of course, was in the National Championship game where North Carolina lost on a buzzer-beater to Villanova. Now they’ll begin their quest for redemption. Said quest begins on Friday, March 17 in the First Round of March Madness as they take on the Texas Southern Tigers inside Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
Despite bad tournament memories, North Carolina is poised to make a run back to the title game. The Tar Heels have a plethora of veteran leadership with the likes of Justin Jackson, Joel Berry, Kennedy Meeks and Isaiah Hicks. They can beat teams inside and out, but their success still comes down to their rebounding and pace. It’d be a shock if they didn’t control both against Texas Southern.
While the Tigers enjoyed a fantastic season, they shouldn’t be much more than a stepping stone for North Carolina. Not only are the on the wrong side of the 130-0 record in 1-16 matchups in March Madness, but they lost by 20 or more points in the regular season to every ranked opponent they faced in the regular season.

Even though both No. 1 seeds were tested early on Thursday, a No. 16 seed has still never notched a win in the NCAA Tournament. Subsequently, it’s hard to imagine the Tigers doing the same on Friday. North Carolina is a legitimate title contender and should roll on through.
