NCAA Tournament 2017, Oregon vs Iona: Highlights, score and recap
Tyler Dorsey paced the Oregon Ducks to a victory over the Iona Gaels in the 2017 NCAA Tournament First Round on Friday.
For those that were expecting the Oregon Ducks to provide plenty of offense on Friday, that’s exactly what they got. Facing the Iona Gaels, who also like to run and up down the court, the Ducks were in their comfort zone.
From the very beginning, the Ducks put this one out of touch for Iona early. Tyler Dorsey reminded everyone once again that Dillon Brooks isn’t the only player on Oregon that can catch fire right away. The Ducks guard was hot shooting the ball.
He helped lead the Ducks to a whopping 55 points in the first half and it was too much for Iona to overcome. At one point, the Ducks found themselves with a 27-point lead and the game well in hand.
However, the Gaels didn’t quit despite the huge deficit. Sam Cassell Jr. really made a name for himself with his performance off the bench. The young guard helped cut the deficit to the low teens which caused the Ducks to take a timeout.
That led to the Ducks changing up their pace a bit and start forcing the ball inside. Jordan Bell was too much for Iona to handle inside and it was enough for the Ducks to keep their foot on the pedal and advance to the next round.
