Updated NCAA Tournament bracket: Rhode Island upsets Creighton
An updated 2017 NCAA Tournament bracket after the Rhode Island Rams handled the Creighton Bluejays in an upset
Of the many hot teams that found their way into the 2017 NCAA Tournament bracket on Selection Sunday, Rhode Island may have been the hottest. Throughout the Atlantic-10 Tournament, they trailed for a total of under two minutes. So when they were pitted against a short-handed Creighton Bluejays team on First Round Friday, it was bad news for the Jays.
The Rams came out hot and didn’t relent for a second. They jumped out to an early lead an never relinquished it, ultimately pushing it to double digits to earn the emphatic upset victory. Rhode Island became the second 11-seed to pull off the upset on Friday as the USC Trojans topped the SMU Mustangs, though in an entirely different fashion.
Meanwhile, the second slate of early games also featured the North Carolina Tar Heels in action. The No. 1 seed in the South Region dismantled the Texas Southern Tigers for a 39-point win. Another ACC team in the Louisville Cardinals started off horribly in their 2-15 matchup, but pulled together for a nice win of their own.
