The second day of the 2017 NCAA Tournament is in the books and here’s who is set to play on Sunday in the second round.
Another day of the 2017 NCAA Tournament is in the books and half of the Sweet 16 will be set on Saturday evening. Upsets haven’t been happening nearly as frequently as they have in recent seasons, but there’s still some exciting play and some double-digit seeds moving on.
Friday was filled with competitive play and although there were some close games, there were also a few blowouts. So who will be moving on to play on Sunday in the second round?
Let’s kick things off in the East Region. One of the biggest upsets of the day was No. 11 USC over sixth-seeded SMU. Not many people thought the Trojans had much of a shot, but they pulled out a one-point win. The Trojans will face No. 3 Baylor on Sunday.
The bottom of the region happened to be one of the best down-to-the-wire games, until the final minutes, with South Carolina beating Marquette. It will match up with Duke on Sunday and the Blue Devils are playing like they’re on a mission.

Next, the Midwest Region had the most games, tied with the South. Only one second round matchup had been decided after Thursday’s set of games. Kansas and Michigan State both advanced to the round of 32 and will play Sunday in an intriguing matchup. No. 11 Rhode Island pulled off another upset, taking down Creighton. It will face Oregon on Sunday. Michigan and Louisville will also face off on Sunday, a game everyone is talking about.
Advancing in the South region was yet another No. 1 seed in North Carolina. The Tar Heels will take on No. 8 seed Arkansas. Cincinnati advanced easily, as did UCLA and the two will play in a No. 6 vs. No. 3 matchup. Lastly, 31-win Wichita State could give No. 2 seed Kentucky a battle on Sunday.
Finally, the West was already decided on Thursday night, so every game in that region will take place on Saturday.
Check back here tomorrow to see who plays in the Sweet 16 and when.
