The Sonic series is looking to return to its roots with Sonic Forces. We won’t get too excited, but it does look fun.

We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves just yet. But we’re proud to say that Sonic (hopefully) is back. After countless years of suffering through terrible Sonic the Hedgehog games, we’re proud to say that Sonic Forces is looking extremely promising.

At SXSW, a ton of new information was revealed. What gets us excited the most are the elements of gameplay that are making a return. For the entries in the series that have been good, these elements are huge factors benefitting the game as a whole. For example, the music and the standard fast-paced gameplay seem to be the main focus of Sonic Forces, which is amazing.

We also learned about the different styles of gameplay. You’ll be able to play Classic Sonic, Modern Sonic and a currently unknown mode. You can check out some new gameplay of the Modern Sonic style down below:

Based on the footage, that game looks spectacular. It’s a breath of fresh air to be saying this about the Sonic series. Sega has finally decided to keep things simple and stick to what works after so many years of getting it wrong.

Experimenting with new styles of gameplay has tarnished Sonic’s legacy. At its core, the game should have beautiful visuals, fast-paced and intense gameplay, and a soundtrack that’s extremely memorable (play Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for reference).

Likable characters and an interesting story are also additions that can enhance the game’s overall experience. If they mix all these factors together, then we’re in for a great time. Something like this has been long overdue and hopefully, we won’t trash this game once it launches.

Sonic Forces launches during the Holiday 2017 season on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
