Wisconsin stunned defending champs Villanova in the Round of 32, and the Twitter trolling was swift.

For another consecutive year, dating back to 2007 when it last happened, we will not have a repeat winner in the NCAA Tournament. Villanova couldn’t event out of the first weekend following a season in which they ran the table to win the title.

Nova’s Round of 32 loss to Wisconsin was one that not a lot of people saw coming, but those paying attention to the numbers might have. The Badgers were blessed with a frustrating 8-seed draw in the tournament, one that some experts believed was criminal under-seeding.

The victim of that crime is Villanova, and now brackets all over the country are busted to bits.

Florida was the last team to go back-to-back as NCAA Champions, winning it all in 2006 and again the year later. Since then no team has been able to pull off the herculean feat of running the most unpredictable table in sports and this year’s Nova team is no exception.

All eyes are on Wisconsin now, as they earn the title of the first team to knock off a No. 1 seed in this year’s bracket. The Badgers, as underrated as they were coming into the tournament, now have a clear path to the title game — but not an easy one. Next weekend they will face either Virginia or Florida, tough but winnable games. There’s also a looming contest with Duke, should the stars align for that Elite Eight matchup.

For now, we can appreciate Wisconsin for what they are — world beaters and expert Twitter trolls. Almost immediately after the clock expired in the upset win, Wisconsin’s Twitter account was lit with a devious troll to rub extra salt into the wounds of Nova fans.

If nothing else this March, can we give Wisconsin a trophy for this tweet?
