The Michigan Wolverines upset the Louisville Cardinals in the Second Round of March Madness, but the real highlight was John Beilein and his Super Soaker
Entering the 2016-17 college basketball season, the Michigan Wolverines clearly had talent. However, the question mark around the team was whether or not they would be able to capitalize on that. For much of the season, they frankly failed to do so, much to the frustration of John Beilein. However, the veteran head coach has a knack for getting his teams streaking at the right time.
Following winning the Big Ten Tournament, they earned the No. 7 seed in the Midwest Region for March Madness. Beilein and the Wolverines took down Oklahoma State first, but then faced Rick Pitino and the No. 2-seeded Louisville Cardinals in the Second Round on Sunday. Even then, the Wolverines were just too hot to stop.
Despite trailing for the majority of the game, Beilein’s offensive-minded squad got hot down the stretch and came back to overtake the Cardinals. They then came up with enough clutch buckets and key stops down the stretch to edge out Louisville by four points, picking up the big upset.

Naturally the Wolverines were amped up about the big win and moving on to the Sweet 16. Even then, though, I don’t think anyone would’ve predicted Beilein to get excited enough to celebrate by coming into the locker room Super Soaker a-blazing:
Take your buzzer-beaters and highlight dunks—nothing in March Madness is going to top John Beilein coming in hot with a Super Soaker.

Now Michigan moves on to face the winner of Oregon and Rhode Island in the Sweet 16. After knocking off Louisville, I doubt either team is particularly excited about playing the Wolverines. For our sake, though, let’s hope that Michigan keeps winning and that Beilein keeps digging into his toy-chest to celebrate victories.
